Free unofficial character companion
Your story is yours.
The bookkeeping is mine.
A free, unofficial character companion for D&D 5.5e / 2024 tables. Build your character, understand your choices and keep the math honest, so you can stay in the adventure.
Fan-made. Not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast or D&D Beyond.
Why Steward exists
Character sheets should help you play, not bury you in bookkeeping.
Steward is built for players who want a clearer way to create, understand and run one character at the table. It keeps the math visible, the choices explained and the reminders close enough to matter.
Steward says: you roll the dice and tell the story. I will carry the ledger.
What Steward does
Build, understand, track, remember and play.
Build
Guided character creation for D&D 5.5e / 2024 tables.
Understand
Human-written guidance that explains choices before they become numbers.
Track
HP, resources, spell slots, rests, conditions and the parts players forget mid-session.
Remember
Rules-aware reminders without taking control away from the player or the DM.
Play
Mobile-first and fast enough to use at the table.
Product preview
A quiet sheet that does loud work.
A short look at how Steward moves from building a character to tracking a session.
What's inside
The full 2024 roster, already in the ledger.
Every class, subclass, species and background from the 2024 Player's Handbook is built and playable today. Each one was checked against the rules before it was written in.
The four rosters above are complete for the 2024 Player's Handbook. The rest are catalogs that keep growing: Steward carries what it can write in its own words, never the contents of a book you paid for. How the rules get checked.
Steward says: I counted them twice. The second count is the one I trust.
Why it is different
A companion, not a command center.
Plenty of tools want to run your whole game. Steward wants to hold your character sheet so your hands are free for the dice.
One character, done well
Steward focuses on the character in front of you, not a library of everything.
Math you can check
Every number shows its work. No black boxes between you and your modifiers.
Free, with no locked rooms
No accounts, no subscription, no playable content behind a paywall.
How it works
Mobile-first. Table-first.
- Open Steward in your browser. No app store, no account, no download queue.
- Build your character with guidance. Each choice is explained before it becomes a number on the sheet.
- Add it to your Home Screen. Steward installs as a web app, with its own icon. See the install guide.
- Play at the table. Track HP, slots, rests and conditions while the story keeps moving.
Early version note. Steward stores your character locally in this early version, and backs it up automatically before anything risky like an import. It still cannot survive a cleared cache on its own, so export or download your character before clearing browser data.
What Steward is not
Honest about its limits.
- Not official.
- Not a VTT.
- Not a marketplace.
- Not a replacement for your books.
- Not a replacement for your DM.
- Not trying to be D&D Beyond.
Current status
In early development, and honest about it.
Steward is in early alpha, open to real players. The content roster is complete, the engine is tested on every change, and a full security review has already shipped. What is still missing is artwork, offline support and polish.
Roadmap preview
Where the ledger goes next.
Artwork for species, backgrounds and subclasses, alpha testing with real players, feedback loop open.
Offline support for the app itself, and polish and fixes driven by alpha feedback.
Stay posted
Let Steward write to you.
Leave your email and Steward will send word when something real ships: new features, roadmap movement and ways to help. No noise between releases.
Steward says: I write only when there is something worth reading. Your inbox has enough goblins.
Support
Free to use. Community-supported.
Steward is free. If it helps your table, donations help keep the ink flowing. Support never unlocks playable content, because playable content is never locked.
