Install guide

Install Steward
on your phone.

Steward runs in your browser and can be added to your Home Screen. No app store required. Once installed, it opens like an app, with its own icon.

Offline support is not ready yet, so keep a connection when you open it.

Safari does the honors.

  1. Open Steward in Safari.

    Safari is the surest path. Recent versions of Chrome and other iOS browsers can also do it from their own Share menu.

  2. Open the menu, then tap Share.

    With the compact toolbar, Share lives in the menu beside the address bar. Other toolbar layouts show the square with an arrow directly.

  3. Choose Add to Home Screen.

    Tap View More, or scroll the share sheet, if it is not in the first rows.

  4. Keep Open as Web App on, then tap Add.

    Steward now lives on your Home Screen with its own icon.

Worth doing on iPhone.In a Safari tab, iOS deletes a site's saved data after seven days of use without a visit, so a character kept there can vanish between sessions. On your Home Screen, Steward is safe from that. The Home Screen app keeps its own save, so copy your character from Data first and paste it there.

Android / Chrome

Chrome makes it easy.

  1. Open Steward in Chrome.

    Any recent version will do.

  2. Tap the install banner, or open the menu.

    The menu is the three dots in the top corner.

  3. Choose Install app.

    Some versions say Add to home screen instead. Both lead to the same place.

  4. Tap Install.

    Steward installs like a regular app, with its own icon.

Desktop

The browser is enough.

Use Steward directly in your browser, or install it if your browser offers the option.

  1. Open Steward.

    Any modern browser will do. No account, nothing to download.

  2. Click the install icon.

    Chrome and Edge show it at the right end of the address bar when a site can be installed. In the Chrome menu it also lives under Cast, save, and share.

  3. Choose Install.

    Steward opens in its own window, and you can pin it like any other app.

On a Mac with Safari, choose File, then Add to Dock.

01 / Keep a copy

Your character lives
on this device.

Steward stores your character locally in this early version, and backs it up automatically before anything risky like an import. It still cannot survive these on its own. Export or download your character first, or add Steward to your Home Screen.

01 / Clearing browser data

The cache takes the character with it.

Export or download a copy before you clear site data or cookies.

02 / A new browser or device

Each browser keeps its own save.

A browser switch or a device reset starts empty. Bring your character over with an export.

03 / Seven days away

Safari tabs forget on iPhone and iPad.

In a Safari tab, saved data can be deleted after seven days of use without a visit. The Home Screen app is safe from that.

Still stuck? Tell me what happened
I cannot find Add to Home Screen on my iPhone.

Start in Safari, the surest path. Since iOS 26, Share is not always in the toolbar: with the compact layout it sits in the menu beside the address bar. In the share sheet, tap View More or scroll. Still missing? Tap Edit Actions at the bottom of the list and add it.

The install option does not appear.

Make sure the site is loaded over HTTPS. The address should start with a lock. On desktop, the install icon only shows in browsers that support it, such as Chrome and Edge.

Does Steward work offline?

Not yet. Offline mode is not ready, so keep a connection when you open Steward. It is next on the roadmap.

Where is my character saved?

Locally, in this browser, on this device. There is no account and no cloud copy, so keep exports and backups of your character.
